Italian Damiano Cunego, who finished 4th in this year’s Giro d’Italia, says he hasn’t decided yet whether to ride in the Tour de France. In an interview with Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport he said he figures his chances of doing the Tour to be 50/50. He also noted that Giro winner, Ivan Basso, is four years his senior - at age 24, Cunego has many years of racing in front of him. His 2004 Giro victory at the age of 22 was phenomenal, and there’s no reason to think he can’t achieve that level of success again.
In the meantime, however, Cunego wants to concentrate on the Spring classics. After a 3rd place finish in this year’s Liege-Bastogne-Liege and his win in the Giro di Lombardia, he’s got plenty of outlets for his obvious talents.
