Joly Relinquishes Red Jersey for One Day

By Jessica | Permalink | Comments No Comments | July 14th, 2006 | Trackback

I missed an opportunity yesterday to talk about a new Red Jersey wearer. Belgium’s Wim Vansevenant (Davitamon-Lotto) managed to kick Sébastien Joly off his maillot rouge high-horse by a whopping twelve seconds yesterday. Of course, after today, Joly has reclaimed his former prize. He’s now in red again by nearly eight minutes, so it’ll take some clever maneuvering to unseat him again. Let’s see if someone can manage it…

In the meantime, a little bit about Vansevenant - he turned pro in 1995, and has plenty of different team jerseys in his closet. Most recently, he’s been with Davitamon-Lotto since 2005 (though he was with Lotto in 2003-2004 as well). His biggest result to date is a 1st place in the 1996 Tour de Vaucluse. Now, of course, he can claim a narrow one-day “lead” in the race for the Red Jersey.
