“No Win, No Green” says McEwen

Even though sprinters Robbie McEwen and Thor Hushovd appear to still be on good terms despite what looked like the start of an argument at the end of stage two, McEwen’s latest statement seems like a bit of a slap in Hushovd’s face. McEwen says he thinks a “no win, no green” clause would be a good idea in the race for the points jersey.

“I always felt it [the green jersey] should represent the best sprinter but it’s a point jersey, it’s about consistency,” McEwen said. “So you can win without actually winning anything in the Tour. I have said before it wouldn’t be a bad idea to maybe change the rules slightly about the green jersey and say that you’re only in contention to win it if you actually have a stage win to go with it. I think it would be a good idea.”

In 2005, Hushovd claimed the green jersey in Paris without having won a single stage.

What do you think? Should the points jersey become a true sprinters’ jersey and only go to a man who can win at least one stage?
