Things to Watch for: Spectators

As Jessie pointed out in this entry, spectators and the Tour can have issues. In addition to this year’s ‘strike by a green hand‘ and disruption from a drunk fan, there have been countless other incidents in previous years, notably Lance Armstrong’s crash a few years back after his handlebars got snagged on a spectators…something.

With all the flag waving, running alongside riders, jumping up and down, drunken screaming and everything else the riders have to put up with as their muscles burn, trying to surge up a hill, I’m always amazed there aren’t more incidents of spectators not getting out of the way.
