Jan Ullrich has thrown down one final gauntlet prior to the start of the Tour de France on July 1 by winning the final individual time trial of the Tour de Suisse, and by doing so, winning the entire Tour.
Ullrich began the day only 50 seconds down on GC, so it was widely assumed he’d be able to catapult into first place, as long as he rode his usual time trial best - which he did. This marks Ullrich’s 2nd Tour de Suisse victory (his 1st was in 2004), and gives him increased motivation and confidence going into the prologue in Strasbourg.
